About Us

We proudly created the concept of Alice IS Wonderland in 2000 because we believe so strongly in the essence that Alice Springs is truly a wonderland of beauty, colour, culture, creativity and fun. Our charter remains to highlight the many wonderful features that Alice Springs and Central Australia have to offer to broad cross-sections of the global gay and lesbian travel markets.. We are delighted that you have chosen to visit our site - stay a while and see what's on offer!!

Throughout each year, we proudly host a number of gay, lesbian and friends events that either pre or post other premier gay events in Australia (eg. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras) or are run on a 'stand alone' basis at times linked to the Alice Desert Festival program. These events are listed in the Program section of this site. We invite you to 'take a look before you book' and please check the Diary for associated events.

We are fortunate to enjoy a very strong local gay and lesbian community here (including the highest per capita population of lesbians in Australia!) both in numbers and in enthusiasm. Strategic and opeartional support from Tourism NT is an essential element and their continuing suport is very much appreciated.

Our community represents an influential spectrum with regard to age, professional status or background, interests and achievements. Those who choose to live here in Alice Springs do so with the knowledge that there is a nurturing base upon which to build support for their initiatives and dreams. As was said in Neville Shute's 'A Town Like Alice' - she's a bonza place.

Our first festival held in March 2001 heralded the beginning of what has grown into a successful venture that promotes Alice Springs as a travel destination as well as being a proactive promotion of the gay and lesbian community. Both Kalika and Phil have individually designated gay / lesbian specific proprties from whre they proudly host their guests. You can find Kalika's Winnecke Wonderland for Women and Phil's The Rainbow Connection (click on highlighted blue) so feel free to contact them if you are seeking accommodation here in town.

We seek to provide our national and global guests with a variety of events in supportive environments that reflect some of the outback life in Central Australia while still providing them with the creature comforts they enjoy. Our emphasis is on safety and friendliness so you can be sure that any businesses involved in our promotions or events endorse both concepts and will help to provide them for your comfort and enjoyment.

The opening ceremony of our second festival in March 2002 was launched by the Mayor of Alice Springs, Fran Kilgariff along with a key-note address from the then Member for Central Australia, The Hon. Peter Toyne. Such a profile established credibility with regard to our integrity, presence and vision. We work happily with a number of local businesses and organisations that have seen the credibility of that vision since its inception and have assisted us in the development of the dream. Clearly, without their support and encouragement, we would not have been able to achieve our significant successes and we look forward to continuing to grow in combination over the next decade and beyond as we move forward in this third (Age of Aquarius) millennium. We are especially thankful to major organisations like Voyages Hotels and Resorts and other www.galta.com.au members whose staff and management have supported us since our inception and who continue to provide us with a safe and friendly environment in which to live and play. Gay & Lesbian Tourism Australia along with Tourism Australia and Tourism NT provides us with added strategic and supportive benefits. While we no longer run week long festivals, Alice remains a Wonderland year round and there is always a welcoming smile to greet members of our 'rainbow family' that may be visiting.

We'll extend a warm welcome to you because we love the place and want you to enjoy it as well.. We hope that you can arrange your travel schedule to take in a 'slice of Alice' when you're visiting the Northern Territory - there is much to see, do and 'be' here. If you find yourself here at other times of the year outside the events program listed, please feel free to contact us and we can help to put you in touch with all the 'right people'.

See you in The Alice!!!
